HOW THE WISE MAKE DECISIONS

CLIP ART
Decision making is one make –it- or- mar -it point for all of mankind. Of all of God’s creation,  man is the one with the power to choose in everyday life.
A hundred percent of how our lives turn out is determined by the choices we make.
If you asked me, Decision making is one of the greatest and most important skill that should be taught even from kindergarten!
I look at my life and I can point out few foolish decisions I made in the past. I’m sure you have your bout of wrong choices in your history too. If we took a moment to be honest with ourselves, we can tell how we came to those foolish or wrong decisions.
Today, we are going to look at how the wise make decisions and I believe that we won’t make cowardly choices afterwards

1.   They objectively seek the facts
Proverbs 18:13 “He who gives an answer before he hears, it is folly and shame to him.” (NASB)
I’ve had moments when I responded before someone got done asking a question. I felt foolish and indeed it was shameful as the scripture above points out.
You are definitely going to regret your decision if you make them before having all the facts possible. I’m not saying you should wait for all eternity but the people who ask questions find answers.
My 3- watch word for gathering information for a decision making process is (ASP)
·        Ask questions
·        Seek answers
·        Probe findings
Never you sit down assuming God will always tell you things while you snore at night. Actively seek information.

2.   They play against time not the other way round
Proverbs 19:2Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes ( NLT)
Wise men play against time; time is never against them!
You see people who are often in a hurry miss it. I understand that there could be moments when we don’t have so much time to make a decision. However, one thing I have noticed about the wise is, they are never under pressure because they know how to bring their minds under control when pressure mounts.
The way I do that personally is to say a quick word of prayer, “Father take control” Those three words are powerful in the face of any kind of pressure. So if you have very little time to make a decision, don’t act in haste.
Take a deep breath and say the three power words, “Father take control” and God will help you make the right choice. Remember that He loves us more than we know.

3.    They honour the ultimate priority
1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (NASB)
You see one truth honey, everyone have priorities that get tested each time they are faced with options. You can decide to make choices that help fulfill your immediate goals but wise people aren’t concerned only about now. They think about the future and way into eternity.
To make decisions like the wise, you must always ask yourself, “Would this option glorify God in the end?” Honoring God/Christ is the ultimate priority of the wise. If an option wouldn’t help you achieve that, don’t consider it!

4.   They review the past
Proverbs 26:11 “Like a dog that returns to its vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.” (NASB)
For God’s sake there is a reason God gave us memories.
They are not there to torment us but to stand as references for us to do better, be better, have better!
Oh darling, I’ve repeated mistakes in the past but not anymore. I had to hold a board conference with myself and be frank with my soul. I realized that if something failed before, there is a reason it did. We must find the reason and act differently all else we will get the same failed result. Faith doesn’t bless your folly!
If you made a decision that failed in the past, please don’t repeat and expect a miracle. The wise review the past to make better decisions not to repeat the old dumbness while expecting miracles.

5.   They Uphold Integrity
Proverbs 10:9 “He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.”(NASB)
Integrity is really what I’m looking out for in the man who will eventually marry me. I’m not going to compromise that for anything in the world.
Mind you, a huge vocabulary in tongue speaking is not synonymous with integrity.
According to Google, integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. I'll Like to exchange moral for GODLY.
Some people want what they want at all cost. The wise aren’t like that.
You can’t walk in integrity and fail in life. I didn’t say it. The scripture above did. Never compromise your integrity for momentary gain.  When faced with options ask yourself, Would this decision jeopardize my integrity or hinder my ability to talk to others about Jesus? Don’t sell your generational inheritance for a plate of ijebu garri please!

6.   They seek wise counsel

Proverbs 2:6“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” (NASB)

Yes! The wise seek wise counsel. Wise counsel is found in the pages of the scriptures. Put your butt down baby and open those pages of the bible for yourself!

Look intently into the book of life and seek God’s opinion for the matter.

Yeah right! I know there are situations which the bible doesn’t expressly speak on.

Proverbs 11:14

Where no wise guidance is, the people falleth; But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. (ASV).

Now that’s why we have friends, families, leaders in whom the Spirit of wisdom operates. Ask for their counsel before you make decisions.

7.   They follow instruction

Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. (KJB)

You can’t make wise decisions if you are allergic to instruction. An instruction ignored births your destruction. The next time you have to make a decision. Seek the accompanying instruction! Never assume! SEEK!
